Defence

Western Australia has a long and successful history of supporting the defence sector through advanced manufacturing, sustainment and maritime engineering. The State is home to key strategic defence assets, including HMAS Stirling, Australia’s largest naval base, and a growing ecosystem of defence primes, subcontractors and innovative small and medium enterprises.

Located south of Perth, the Australian Marine Complex (AMC) is one of the Southern Hemisphere’s premier centres for shipbuilding, sustainment and advanced manufacturing. The precinct supports the construction, maintenance and upgrade of commercial vessels and Royal Australian Navy surface ships and submarines.

As Australia strengthens its naval capabilities through the AUKUS partnership and the continuous naval shipbuilding program, Western Australia is playing an increasingly important role in submarine sustainment, defence technologies and sovereign industrial capability. Supported by world-class infrastructure and a highly skilled workforce, the State is well positioned to become a leading hub for defence and maritime industries in the Indo-Pacific region.
